Late AmaZulu King Zwelithini remembered as a symbol of peace and unity – SABC News

The late King AmaZulu, Goodwill Zwelithini kaBhekuzulu, has been commemorated as a symbol of peace and unity.

This was the feeling expressed by many speakers at prayer meetings held at two amaZulu royal palaces in Nongoma in northern KwaZulu-Natal.

But these special prayers, held a year after the king’s death, continued to reveal the controversy over the successor to the AmaZulu royal family.

AmaZulu King, Goodwill Zwelithini kaBhekuzulu, died last year on March 12 at a hospital in Durban after contracting COVID-19. Just a month later, Regent Queen Mantfombi Dlamini-Zulu also died. Her will appointed her eldest son, Prince MisiZulu, as elected king.

In the Kwakhetthomthandayo royal palace, where the late king’s wife, Queen Sibongile, lives, prayers and worship songs are today. Queens and some princes and princesses were present.

Church leaders such as Rev. Samuel Mpungose welcomed the dead king and described him as someone with a firm belief in his faith.

“He was not only a king, but a person who worshiped the Lord in heaven. His faith was strong. He promised and submitted to the Almighty. That is why he is the only king who has been on the throne for so many years. He strongly believed in prayer and read the Bible. He prayed to the Almighty all the time and played the piano and praised the Lord in heaven.

Speaking on the sidelines of this memorial, the late King’s brother, Prince Mbonisi Zulu, protested again that MisuZulu kaZwelithini, the elected king, had been nominated by the Zulu royal family as his successor. He says that the family will make a decision about this.

“Because people have been misled, we take the children of the king to the same level, until we come together and then we can invent the name of the king who is chosen to take the throne. At the moment it is not possible to greet someone, even the throne has not been cleansed. I’m saying I’m taking him as one of the sons of kings or princes and princesses, so there’s no difference. As I say to you, we need to sit down and make the right decision about who will take the throne. “

Remembrance ceremony of King Amazulu Goodwill Zwelithini late at KwaKhethomthandayo Royal Palace:

Another memorial service was held at KwaKhangelamankengane Royal Palace to commemorate the late King and also the late Regent Queen Mantfombi Dlamini-Zulu. Misuzulu kaZwelithini, the elected king of AmaZulu, was accompanied by the traditional prime minister, Mangosuthu Buthelezi, and MaZungu’s queen mother.

The elected king encouraged various religious organizations to pray for the royal family.

“We need to remember and remind each other of what the late king left us, which is unity, respect and peace. All three of these values are extremely important. Even at the event held at the ICC when I addressed, I said that it did not cost anything to respect people. That is the legacy that the late King AmaZulu left us.

Some Nongoma residents present here say they believe that stability will only be achieved in the Zulu royal family once the elected king has been crowned.

“These two prayers, which are held in different halls, mean nothing. But we trust that all this division within the royal family will end when King Misuzulu is crowned. He understands the dynamics and the Zulu culture that it is. I believe that the deceased king and the current king elected have the same leadership and personality skills. Nothing will change when he is formally crowned. “

Traditional AmaZulu Prime Minister, Prince Mangosuthu Buthelezi, became emotionalcomments on the criticism he says he faces in connection with his participation in the Zulu royal family.

“I’m being made a scapegoat, people are accusing me of inciting division in the royal family. There are only two of us as elders in the family, the current king was not chosen for the throne himself, but it was his father who put him on the throne. Others say I’m doing this to benefit my party. “

He says that coronation process now lies with President Cyril Ramaphosa. – Vusi Makhosini and Fanele Mhlongo made this report
