Durban: A father-of-three Limpopo, who won the R43million Powerball thanks to a quick R22 pick, plans to give his children the best education and create jobs in his community.
National lottery operator Ithuba said the winner claimed their winnings from the March 5 draw.
The winning lottery ticket was purchased on the Nedbank banking app with a ticket bet of Rand 22.50 and the winner used a quick pick method.
“I want to enjoy my winnings with my family,” the winner told Ithuba. “My father and I have our own family business and some of the money will go towards expanding and growing the business. It will also allow me to create jobs within my community.
He said the scale of his winnings was beyond what he had dreamed of.
“It’s honestly something I wasn’t expecting.
He said that as a father of three young children, giving his children the best education was very important to him.
“I’ll save some of my earnings so that I can give them the opportunity to someday go to college and make their dreams come true.”
Ithuba group chief executive Charmaine Mabuza said the company’s partnerships with banks are yielding positive results.
“We are happy to announce yet another jackpot winner for the banking app. Since 2015, more than R 1.3 billion in earnings have been paid out to winners through banking channels.
“Partnering with banks gives our players the ability to play lottery games from anywhere, anytime on the trusted platforms of their choice,” said Mabuza.
Ithuba said this winner became Limpopo’s second biggest jackpot winner in the first three months of the year.
On March 2, a 30-year-old Limpopo who won the PowerBall jackpot of Rand 51 million will pursue his dream of becoming a social worker.
