Limpopo man appears in court over racism case – SABC News

A 50-year-old man arrested on charges of assaulting a 16-year-old boy in a racial discrimination case appears before the Groblosdale Magistrate’s Court in Limpopo.

According to police, the suspect is charged with assaulting the victim at a restaurant and aiming a gun when a teenager tried to use the same salt as the suspect.

The incident went viral on social media, and some netizens criticized it.

Police spokeswoman Motlafela Mojapelo said the suspect was charged with assault with intent to cause serious injury and point a gun.

Police also confiscated the suspect’s gun.

A teenage boy says he is relying on law enforcement officers to bring the man to trial.

Kopano Makweng said he appreciated the public support.

He said, “After the man was arrested, we are relying on the police force. We were in the store and he was fighting with my brother and I tried to break them. But in the end I was beaten. It was my brother who said he wanted to use salt and sauce. I am happy that people are supporting me and trying to stop racism.”
