A perfume maker, Matimba Makaringe (32) from Nkowa-nkowa Township, outside Tzaneen, in Limpopo has encouraged other women to work hard and create job opportunities for rural communities in the South Africa celebrates Women’s Month.

Create an opportunity

Makaringe has encouraged women to work hard and create job opportunities for rural communities. She started a fragrance company in her home in 2017. She is happy that her work is now providing work for many women. .

Her company -Courageous Cosmetics currently has a marketing, sales and training agreement with the Company’s Corporate Responsibility Center. Makaringe is a self-taught perfumer before starting her own business.

The Communications graduate of the University of the Free State said he started the business after many setbacks.

“A hot water bottle exploded on my lap so I got a second burn. And a year later, I decided to leave. I was also in a relationship with a partner that left me with a lot of debt. Therefore, the stench of the burning and blood of the womb continued to cling to my body. So I tried to buy perfumes, but I couldn’t afford them. So I met someone who helped me create my own fragrance. But as I was using it, I realized that there is a market for it.” he says.

Matimba Makaringe has created an opportunity for her community by employing 4 women in her perfume business.

Seize every opportunity

He says that starting a business is not easy; However, she encourages women to seize every little opportunity they have to improve their lives.

“No one is coming to save us if you make a mess here and turn it into a successful business. When I started this business, I was working here parked at the store for five years last year and I fought tooth and nail to stay here. I’m looking at work. We’re trying to create a system using technology instead of social media and gossip king. I go to social media to find opportunities.” He added.

Life is changing

One of his employees, Mpho Mashaba, said that working at the Makaringe perfume shop was a life-changing experience as his company had created jobs for black people.

“We can do our own thing. And I, since we provide the factory, training and buying and selling, it can also be more on its own, because I have able to take advantage of the opportunity and become an agent- as a market for other businesses and help them grow.” Mashaba explains.

Makaringe adds that she wants to restore hope and confidence to women living in underdeveloped countries by helping them by creating good and affordable fragrance products.
