Liverpool skipper Jordan Henderson said: “We had chances, we just couldn’t take them. We continued. I think both teams are a bit tired in extra time, but we’re giving everything. Then it went back to penalties and luckily we have the green under control again.”

When asked about Alisson’s performance, Henderson said: “Not enough good words! He is unbelievable. Incredible. In games – everything; Build-up, shot stopping, his all-round personality in the dressing room. The way he is as a man – unbelievable.”

The skipper trusted that Kostas Tsimikas would bury the winner.

“Kostas was good at pens. We practiced them and he was good, so I was full of confidence when he showed up.”

Liverpool have made great efforts to do well in every competition this season, says the skipper, and FA Cup victory gives them confidence.

Alisson says Liverpool will draw confidence from the clash

Alisson said beating Chelsea on penalties in the FA Cup final would give Liverpool a huge confidence boost.

“We didn’t concede a goal, it went to penalties and after the lads scored incredible goals, all I had to do was save the last goal. I’m so happy.”

He added: “That’s also one of the ‘mental monsters’, going into overtime and keeping the high level, performing well.

“It gives us even more confidence to go on for the Premier League and also the Champions League final.

“This is an amazing moment and now we just have to enjoy it.”

Kostas Tsimikas sends Liverpool to seventh heaven

Tsimikas said he asked to finish seventh in the shootout to have a chance of winning the match.

The Reds hero said: “It’s very, very special to me. The manager asked me what number I want. I said number seven. He said: ‘Why before?’ I said, ‘I want number seven.’ Number seven gave me an opportunity to win the game, I chose the right touchline and scored – very, very happy about that.”
