Mahindra XUV 300 refreshed with new wheels and features

The Mahindra XUV 300, certified last year by Global NCAP as the safest car in South Africa as part of the #SaferCarsForAfrica initiative, has undergone a mid-life overhaul just under three years after its world premiere.

Externally, the tweaks are reserved for the wheels, with the entry-level W4 continuing to ride on steel wheels with plastic covers, while the newly added W4 SE uses model-specific 16-inch alloys.

Completing the restyling are diamond-cut 16-inch wheels on the mid-range W6 and a 16-inch steel spare wheel on the flagship W8, now standard across the range.

New 16-inch diamond-cut alloy wheels can be found on the W6 and W8 models.

Inside, the changes are more thorough in the form of a new 9-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay, Android Auto and embedded satellite navigation on all models except the W4.

However, the entry-level offering joins the W4 SE and W6 in benefiting from a new black-trimmed dashboard and cloth seats, while a leatherette finish for the latter glares at the W8.

Along with the W6, the W8’s spec sheet now includes dual-zone air conditioning, a sunroof, leather steering wheel and tire pressure monitoring as standard, with the addition of a self-dimming rear-view mirror and auto-leveling headlights as well.

All but the entry-level W4 get the new 9-inch touchscreen infotainment system.

As before, all models are equipped with two front airbags, ABS and EBD and ESP, but the W8 increases the number of airbags to seven and is also equipped with Hill Hold Assist and dynamic cornering braking.

Under the bonnet, the XUV 300 continues unchanged with outputs of 81 kW/200 Nm from the 1.2-litre three-cylinder turbo petrol engine and 86 kW/300 Nm from the 1.5-litre four-cylinder turbo diesel.

A six-speed manual remains the only transmission option, with drive going to the front wheels.
