Email marketing giant Mailchimp Data breach check After a malicious hacker compromised an internal company tool to gain access to customer accounts, the report states: In a statement to TechCrunch, Mailchimp CISO Siobhan Smyth said the company became aware of the breach on March 26 after identifying a malicious actor accessing tools used by the company’s customer support and account management teams. Access was gained after successful social engineering attacks, a type of attack that exploits human error and uses manipulation techniques to obtain personal information, access, or valuables. “We took action quickly to address the situation by shutting down access to compromised employee accounts, and have taken steps to prevent additional employees from being impacted,” Smyth said.
