Mamelodi Sundowns win league title for fifth straight season – SABC Sport

Mamelodi Sundowns are champions of the Premiership Soccer League; The Chloorkop side successfully defended their title and clinched the championship for the fifth straight year after a goalless draw against Cape Town at the Loftus Stadium.

One point was enough to defend the title. Assistant coach Rulani Mokwena congratulated the players on their performance:
“A special word of congratulations to the players, you are running out of superlative words to describe them. I mean what they show today is a true reflection of who they are. Honest, hardworking, extremely hardworking, like to coach. Not an easy champions league game and as broken as we were and then coming and then coming and showing that kind of spirit and performance, normally some teams would collapse after setbacks like this.

The league title will send the team back to the CAF Champions League after being eliminated in the quarter-finals of the tournament, Mokwena says this is no time to relax.
“Sober we go again, we play around the four games to try to get as many points as possible to try …. Unfortunately now we can’t calculate more than 71 points, which is a record we had, but then we have to improve on the number of points we got last season. We will do our best to maintain that certain level.”

Winning the championship five times in a row sets Bafana BaStyles apart from the rest, Mokwena points out that ambition drives the team.
