Maritime Safety Authority resumes oil recovery operation in Algoa Bay

CAPE TOWN – South Africa’s Maritime Safety Authority said on Wednesday an oil recovery operation had resumed in Algoa Bay in the Eastern Cape.

Deputy Chief Operating Officer Vernon Keller adds that the oil spill incident happened during a bunker service or “ship-to-ship” oil transfer, around noon on Monday.

“Unfortunately, we had to suspend recovery operations on Tuesday due to heavy weather. However, we are happy to say that clean-up operations resumed early Wednesday morning. We also conducted aerial surveillance by helicopter to assess the extent All visible oil was collected on Tuesday.
