John Maduka had turned his side after losing to Mamelodi Sundowns in the cup at the weekend.

Victor Letsoalo was dropped on the bench and Royal AM recalled the likes of Ndumiso Mabena and Tebogo Potsane.

Mxolisi Macuphu and Thabo Matlaba were suspended and injured respectively.

An early injury to Wandile Mabuza forced Maduka to make another change and Royal AM struggled to regain momentum.

With the Fans of Choice back at Harry Gwala to get the team over the line, there was energy back for Maritzburg United at home.

Maritzburg United goalkeeper Marcel Engelhardt was not too busy in the first half until Mfundo Thikazi forced a sharp save from the stopper.

Finally, after the break, Royal AM brought on Letsoalo and he would have the best chance of the game for his side but Engelhardt was up to the attempt.

In the final stage, Royal AM poured bodies forward but they couldn’t break the determined hosts.
