Marriott International Signs Agreement with Baraka Lodges Ltd. to Open Africa’s First Luxury Safari Lodging

Marriott International, Inc. ( today announced that it has entered into an agreement with Baraka Lodges LTD. to enter the safari segment in Africa. The JW Marriott Masai Mara Lodge will be located within the Mara National Reserve, one of Africa’s most popular wildlife and wilderness conservation areas. Offering an unrivaled setting to the discerning traveler, this elegant retreat is expected to welcome guests in 2023.

Overlooking the banks of the famous River Talek and on the edge of the nature reserve, the prime location of the JW Marriott Masai Mara Lodge will offer guests a distinctively elevated camp to discover the Masai Mara Nature Reserve, its stunning views, abundant wildlife and endless plains. . . The floor plan for the newly built cottage features 20 private tents, including one presidential canvas-topped pavilion and two interconnecting canopy suites, ideal for families, each with a private terrace overlooking the river. The common space will include a restaurant, lounge bar, spa and a large outdoor terrace with fire pit that will host traditional Masai dance performances in the evening. The wild landscape will offer guests the opportunity to observe the “Big Five” that the Masai Mara is home to: lions, leopards, buffalo, rhinos and elephants. Between June and September, the reserve also plays host to the annual great reindeer migration, when more than 10 million animals cover 1,800 miles of the Serengeti in neighboring Tanzania.
