JOHANNESBURG — Congress of African Nations (ANC) treasurer-general Paul Mashatile has said Bathabile Dlamini should resign from the party’s Women’s League following her conviction.

Dlamini, who previously served as minister for social development, was found guilty of perjury by the Johannesburg Magistrates’ Court two weeks ago.

The court is expected to decide whether she will be fined or jailed on Friday.

Mashatile said the party is still awaiting the return of President Cyril Ramaphosa from Dubai to settle the matter.

He said ANC officials would meet with Dlamini if she refused to step down.

“So as soon as we meet we’ll call Bathabile and say she’s been sentenced and by our rules she knows what she’s supposed to do. Then she’ll tell us whatever she tells us, but we’ll make sure that the policies of the ANC are implemented.
