Merck Foundation (www.Merck-Foundation.com) and the African First Lady announced the Call for Applications for 2 new categories of Fashion Awards: 2022 Merck Foundation’s “More Than a Mother” FASHION AWARD to address issues such as: Breaking the Stigma of Infertility, Supporting Girls’ Education, Ending Child Marriage, Ending FGM, Ending GBV and Empowering Women at all levels; Merck Foundation FASHION AWARDS 2022 “Diabetes & Hypertension” to promote a healthy lifestyle and raise awareness about the prevention and early detection of Diabetes & Hypertension.

Merck FoundationGerman philanthropic arm of Merck KGaA announces Winner Merck Foundation Fashion Awards 2021 in partnership with The African First Lady who is also the Ambassador of the Merck Foundation’s “More Than a Mother” campaign. Winners are announced for the following Awards:

  1. Merck Foundation “More Than a Mother” FASHION AWARD 2021 The theme raised is to convey a strong and influential message about Resolving the Stigma of Infertility, Empowering Girls and Women through Education at All Levels
  2. Merck Foundation “Make Your Own Mask” Fashion Awards 2021 the theme is to create a design featuring a message to encourage people to wear masks to show them and to protect themselves and their loved ones from the ongoing global health issue of the coronavirus.

Senator, Dr. Rasha Kelej, CEO of Merck Foundation, President of the “More Than a Mother” campaign emphasized, “I am very pleased and proud to announce the winners of the 2021 Merck Foundation FASHION AWARDS “More Than a Mother” and the 2021 Merck Foundation “Make your own Mask” Fashion Awards, together with my dear sisters, First Lady of Africa. Congratulations to our 21 winners, I love all the designs they sent us and I appreciate their creativity. I also welcome them to our newly established ‘Fashion with Purpose’ community, as I strongly believe that Fashion and the Arts play an important role in raising awareness about health and sensitive social topics and can bring about cultural change in Africa”.

The winner from Ghana was personally awarded by the Senator, Dr. Rasha Kelej during her visit to Ghana. He will also present awards to Zambian winners during his upcoming visit to the country.

Senator, Dr. Rasha Kelej also included winners of the previous edition of Merck Foundation Fashion Awards “More Than a Mother” in “Our Africa by Merck Foundation”, a TV program to raise awareness about critical social and health issues through Fashion with Community Purpose. TV programs are also broadcast on KTN, Kenya and NTV, Uganda, LNTV, Liberia, and are also posted on all Merck Foundation social media channels and KTN, NTV, GH One TV and LNTV.

The first is Merck Foundation 2022 “More Than a Mother” Fashion Awardsannounced in partnership with African First Lady. All African Fashion Students and Designers are invited to create and share designs to convey a strong and influential message to raise awareness about one or more of the following social issues such as: Breaking the Stigma of Infertility, Supporting Girls’ Education, Empowering Women, Ending Child Marriage, Ending FGM and/or Ending GBV at all levels.

The second one is Merck Foundation Fashion Awards 2022 “Diabetes & Hypertension”announced in partnership with African First Lady. All African Fashion Students and Designers are invited to create and share designs to convey a powerful and influential message to promote a healthy lifestyle and raise awareness about the prevention and early detection of Diabetes and Hypertension

“Merck Foundation More Than a Mother” is a powerful movement that aims to empower infertile women through access to information, education, and mindset changes. This powerful campaign supports the government in setting policies to increase access to regulated, safe, effective and equitable fertility treatment solutions.
