Mkhwebane Fails Judgment Related to Withdrawal of CR17 Campaign – SABC News

Public Sheriff Busisiwe Mkhwebane failed to ask the Constitutional Court to reverse a ruling related to the findings of her investigation into President Cyril Ramophosa’s R500,000 donation to the 2017 presidential campaign.

On Wednesday, the court upheld the fact that Mkhwebane dishonestly changed the wording of its code of enforcement ethics to reach the conclusion that President Cyril Ramophosa had intentionally misled Congress about giving in violation of regulations.

Mkhwebane alleges that she used the 2007 version of the “deliberate and careless” misleading code, but the Supreme Court rejected this claim as not plausible.

In 2021, the ruling was harsh on Mkhwebane’s findings into Ramaphosa’s donations to the 2017 ANC presidential campaign.

The Constitutional Court also found that Mkhwebane had no jurisdiction to investigate the matter of the CR17 campaign and had overreached in her investigation.

Mmusi Maimane, former leader of the Democratic Alliance and now leader of the One South Africa Movement, told Congress in 2018 that Ramaphosa donated R500,000 to his campaign. was the first to raise this issue.

Judge Chris Jafta said her findings were wrong when Mkhwebane said that Ramaphosa misled Congress with Maimane’s questions.
