MKMVA threatens legal action over ‘inclusive conference’ outcomes

Lawyers representing uMkhonto We Sizwe Military Veterans (MKMVA) have written to the African National Congress (ANC), demanding that the results of the comprehensive veterans conference be canceled, or that court action be addressed.

The conference held last month in East London, East Cape was intended to bring together the two opposition sides of the ANC military – the MKMVA and the MK National Council.

The parent body disbanded the two organizations last year to pave the way for a comprehensive conference to unite the two sides.

It was reported that the conference, under the united name MK War Liberation Veterans, began to take the lead on the East side. London International Conference Center (ICC). The delegates did not elect new leaders, but confirmed that they were working towards unification

MKMVA spokesperson Carl Niehaus he traveled to attend the conference, but was told he could not enter or participate as it tested positive for the Covid-19.

The late Kebby Maphatsoe, a former deputy defense minister, led the MKMVA which is widely seen as a doorstep piece for former president Jacob Zuma. Under his political leadership, the MKMVA became an integral part of the ANC and even had its own elective conference.

However, a military credential verification process run ahead of the East London conference found that thousands of military gear-dressing members, including Niehaus, had not undergone combat training under the former ANC military wing, uMkhonto we Sizwe (MK) .

According to a City Press report, MKMVA told ANC treasurer-general Paul Mashatile through Phos Loots attorneys, that they have officially withdrawn from the East London Congress held and lodged a grievance.

“We are also instructed that our clients do not recognize and acknowledge the findings and / or decisions taken by the ANC at the conference … our clients no longer recognize and acknowledge the conference as a whole for the reasons above, ”read the letter from Andries Nkome of Phosa Loots Attorneys.

Nkome demanded an undertaking from Mashatile’s office to confirm the annulment of the conference and its decisions on the MKMVA.

Mashatile is running for office as secretary-general after Deputy Secretary-General Jessie Duarte, who took the Ace Magashule suspension, fell ill last year.

The MKMVA is convinced that it has never ceased to exist, and continues to exist throughout the country, under the guidance of its constitution.
