Mphupha is delighted to be back with Springbok’s Sevens Women – SABC Sport

Former Springboks Women’s Sevens captain Zintle Mphupha is excited about her return to the team.

The UK-based player last appeared for the national team at the HSBC World Rugby Sevens Series in Cape Town in 2019, missing out on the recent Africa Sevens Cup won by South Africa.

Mphupha said she hopes her return will help the team perform well at the Toulouse stage of the competition.

“It’s been great and amazing to be back with the girls, it’s really been a while and I can’t explain the joy in my heart at this moment. I definitely missed playing for Sevens, it’s been a long time since I’ve played,” Mphupha said.

She added that the series will help the team assess where they are in the world to learn how to improve.

Despite missing out on the Africa Sevens Cup in Tunisia, Mphupha was impressed by her teammates’ performance which led her to the gold medal.

The former Border Bulldogs player says the French leg of the World Series is key in preparing the team for the Commonwealth Games, to be held in Birmingham later this year.
