MTN Group has officially listed the shares of subsidiary MTN Rwandacell on the Rwanda Stock Exchange (RSE), becoming the first mobile telecommunications operator to do so.
The May 4th “IPO listing” saw Crystal Telecom shareholders hold a 20% direct stake in MTN Rwanda. These shares were previously held by Crystal Telecom.
MTN Group CEO Ralph Mupita said in a statement that the listing demonstrates MTN’s “commitment to Rwanda”, where it has been present since 1998.
“This listing will help deepen Rwandan financial markets by expanding public ownership over time and will also establish the basis for a new class of telecommunications and emerging technology assets on the exchange,” Mupita said.
Before its listing by introduction to CSR, MTN Rwanda changed its status from private company to civil liability company. The full name of the company was therefore changed from MTN Rwandacell Limited to MTN Rwandacell PLC, he said. – © 2021 NewsCentral Media
