The case of six people accused of murdering Babita Deokaran, a whistleblower from the Ministry of Health in Gauteng, has been referred to the Supreme Court of Johannesburg in Southern Gauteng.
They made a short article appearance in the District Court of Johannesburg on Tuesday morning.
Deokaran was shot down outside her home in Johannesburg in August 2021.
A senior official of the department was a key witness in an investigation into alleged fraud in a tender in connection with the purchase of personal protective equipment.
The defendants, named Deokaran 6, were all denied bail last year. They withdrew their confessions, saying that they had been given by force.
Defendant No. 1 also claimed that Zweli Mkhize, the former Minister of Health, was part of the conspiracy. He later withdrew it when applying for bail.
The indictment was published and the case was transferred to the Supreme Court of Suður-Gauteng for processing. They will return to the dock on July 22.
