Vice President of the Department of Health (DG) Nicholas Crisp said national health insurance is a goal address inconsistencies in the South African health system.
The ruling ANC launched the idea of NHI in 2007 saying it wanted to expand access to treatment in a country where an average of 72% of the population depends on a public system with few doctors in a collapsed home.
Dr Crisp said the government wanted to have a system in place for everyone to participate in.
“We have unlimited access to health care in South Africa. We have a completely similar system, where private and public health workers act as if they were in different countries and we have We want to have a system, where we can all participate, and we get help because we need health care, not because we have the money to pay for it, or we have an impact on the process. “
