Nigeria: # Greenfield University-Nigeria threatens to kill 17 students and accuses government of “silence”

The kidnapper vowed to kill 17 students on Tuesday.

Nigerians have stepped up petition to the federal and Kaduna provincial governments to secure the release of 17 students who threatened to kill the kidnappers if they were not asked for a ransom by Tuesday.

The students were kidnapped from Greenfield University in Kaduna about two weeks ago.

The kidnappers have already killed five students to show their lack of anxiety about shedding innocent blood.

On Monday, criminal group leader Sani Jalingo said in an interview with Voice of America (VOA) that he would be a student on Tuesday unless the government gave him a ransom of 100 million N and 10 new Honda motorcycles. Evacuate the body of.

Jalingo urged Governor Nacil El Ruffai to take the warning seriously as his group decided to carry out the threat.

In a voice interview, the kidnapped Kingpin said the student’s family paid a ransom of 55 million N, but his group used that money to feed the student.

Apart from the kidnapped Greenfield students, 30 students from the Forestry Mechanization University in Kaduna have also been detained by bandits.

State internal security commissioners and police spokespersons Samuel Alwan and Mohammed Jarigi did not answer calls and texts sent by the Premium Times on Tuesday.

protest

Authorities are silent about the threat, but offline and social media Nigerians are urging the government to spare no means to rescue students.

Earlier on Tuesday, parents of abducted Kaduna students protested at the Parliament Building in Abuja.

Human rights activists, including Sahara Reporters publishers Omoyele Sowore and Deji Adeyanju, also participated in a protest march from Unity Fountain to the Houses of Parliament.

They all demanded that the government rescue the students.

Former Senator Shehu Sani said the government should not underestimate the threat of bandits and demand urgent action.

“The federal and Kaduna governments should not underestimate the threat of bandits to ruthlessly harm these helpless students at the end of their dateline.

In a statement released Tuesday, Sani said, “Why can’t our security forces detect the whereabouts of students and release them for so long, when ransom payments aren’t the solution? It’s dangerous to do nothing. “

“Don’t wait for the bandits to throw the bodies of 17 children to the front door. You can’t helplessly watch over the slaughter of children, claiming they’re fasting in the holy moon.

“If the government has a better solution to free abducted students other than those initiated by the student’s parents, get it working right away,” said a former lawmaker.

Calls for the release of kidnapped students are also rising on social media, and the hashtag #Greenfielduniversity is prevalent on Twitter.

Below is the reaction from Twitter

@aproko_doctor: We are currently creating this monster, paying kidnappers and spoiling repentant terrorists. Currently, some students at #Greenfielduniversity may be paying for the government’s inability to protect their lives.

This is no longer accepted, it is becoming the norm and must be stopped

@Frankdonga: Recalling the students who were killed at #Greenfielduniversity and those who are still at risk, it’s hard to imagine that somebody is collecting salaries and allowances to secure citizens somewhere.

When remembering a student who was killed in #Greenfielduniversity And those who are still at stake, I can’t help but think that somebody is collecting salaries and allowances to secure their citizens, and there is so much anxiety.

@Jaynaijadotcom: If our so-called government children were part of the kidnapped #Greenfielduniversity students, they would have been released by now, and if they killed any of them, It was the end of the kidnapping in Nigeria.

But no, because they are not anyone. The government is silent.

@ayemojubar: The bandits threatened to kill a kidnapped #Greenfield University student today, but his vice president was too busy chasing Microsoft, so there was no word from the president.

@Nigeriangod: When you negotiate with terrorists in your country, this is what you get, another round of kidnapping, and if the ransom is not met, they may be killed. Buhari is a huge failure and the northern governor is only after media control and cattle rights #Greenfielduniversity

@firstladyship: It’s scary to report that the students were killed today. Every time I look at the news from Nigeria, it’s always sad. Buhari is still in power but absent. El Rufai is the last person to rely on for their rescue.

What do we do? Can Jack help with #GreenfieldUniversityICON?

@TheRealJenslaw: An American citizen was kidnapped in Nigeria and an American Marine rescued him. Here in Nigeria, dozens of #Greenfielduniversity students have been adopted by bandits for weeks, and DSS, the Army, the Navy, the police, and God have abandoned the tyrant FG in their NIN. #PantamiResignNow

@TosinOlugbenga: 17 kidnapped students at #Greenfielduniversity may face death today.

Their lives and dreams have become shorter. Because we have a government that talks a lot without taking any action.

The governor of the state tweeted his motivation on Saturday.

Buhari is a failure!

@Apostlesuleman: I cried when they started spoiling “repentant thieves.”

Repentance is in God, not in humans.

Then they started paying the bandits.

It is now a lucrative business to provoke happy companions and enemies of our collective heritage.

Priority is given to #Greenfielduniversity.
