The National Prosecutor’s Office (NPA) is optimistic that it will launch a waterproof case against politicians, former buffalo city metro officials and businessmen tied to clever cases related to the funeral of former President Nelson Mandela.
The trial was supposed to continue in the Supreme Court of Bhiso, but has since been postponed to Tuesday due to power outages.
The defendants include Amatole, regional president of the African National Congress (ANC) suspended, Phumlani Mkolo, former president of the city of Buffalo, Luleka Simon-Ndzele, Zukiswa Ncitha, former deputy mayor, Themba Tinta, former municipal supply chain manager, and Thembel former health MEC Sindiswa Mushroom.
He is accused fraud, money laundering and irregularities Section 1 of the Municipal Management Act. All the defendants pleaded not guilty.
NPA regional spokesman Luxolo Tyali said they have more than 30 witnesses.
“It depends on the approach, who we use or who we don’t. We do not expect any further delay, but we have heard that one of the accused is filing a complaint with the director of the prosecution. It is up to the court to allow the postponement to continue such proceedings, ”explains Tyali.
