NPA to sue Vuyo Mhlakaza-Manamela, vice-president of the Gauteng legislature, for assault – SABC News

The Attorney General has confirmed that a decision has been made to sue the Vice President of the Gauteng District Assembly, Vuyo Mhlakaza-Manamela.

Mahlakaza-Manmela will face charges of assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm and criminal assault for alleged assault on a law enforcement and security officer.

The case stems from an alleged attack on police officer Lizzy Mojapelo.

The alleged assault took place in February 2020 at the home of Mhlakaza-Manamela, the wife of the university’s deputy minister, Buti Manamela.

Mojapelo claims that the suspect, in a fit of intoxication, seriously assaulted her while she was 11 weeks pregnant.

The NPA says that the date of the verdict has yet to be decided.

Mojapelo says that this issue was ignored until the civil rights organization AfriForum intervened.

“I am just happy with the NPA’s decision. It is just unfortunate that AfriForum had to intervene in the matter first. But on a serious note, the NPA would have better served me and my daughter justice. That is all we need and we are grateful to AfriForum for their work and support for us. “
