Ongoing Tshwane Strike Affects Service Around the City – SABC News

The ongoing Tshwane strike is having a severe impact on many residents in the area Capital. The power outage can be felt throughout the township as workers protest for better wages.

Workers in Tshwane stepped up their strike this week for higher wages and downsized assets, which had an impact on service delivery.

Many residents around Tshwane are living a bleak long weekend. This has plunged them into darkness over the current wage dispute in Tshwane.

Resident Tim Sebola lives on a popular estate in Centurion. The whole estate was left without electricity. He says this is even more disturbing as this inconvenience happens with the celebration of Human Rights Month. His family, who live in his hometown of Soshanguve, are in an even worse position, he says.

Waste collection services are also affected.

The city has set up a joint operations center to recover from disrupted services. Tshwane says they are working around the clock to restore services.

Meanwhile, the city said a comprehensive plan had been adopted to alleviate service disruptions until the strike. There have been no reports of intimidation or threats since Friday morning.
