Six people, including children, died on Saturday afternoon after a truck collided head-on with Volkswagen Polo at R38 near Barberton in Mpumalanga.
According to the Road Traffic Management Corporation (RTMC), the accident occurred after the truck tried to overtake another vehicle.
“It is said that the truck was in a dangerous overtaking around the corner of the approaching Polo Sedan’s path and the vehicle collided,” said Simon Zwane, a spokesman for RTMC.
Then the SUV crashed into a truck and a polo.
Zwane added that five people were killed, including a child traveling in Polo, and a truck driver was also killed. The other passenger on the truck was seriously injured.
“The exact cause will be the subject of ongoing investigation,” he said.
