Ronnie O’Sullivan defeated Ding Junhui 6-5 to reach the second round of the Players Championship in Milton Keynes.
O’Sullivan had established a 5-3 advantage at the Marshall Arena before Din pushed him into the decisive slot.
The 95 break sealed the victory and set up a meeting with fellow Englishman Jack Lisowski, who defeated his compatriot Martin Gould 6-3.
Elsewhere on Tuesday, Australia’s Neil Robertson beat Lu Nin 6-1.
O’Sullivan suffered a shocking defeat at Wales Open Final On Sunday, world number 81 Jordan Brown denied him a record fifth title in the final frame.
The six-time World Champion made a spectacular comeback from 5-3 to defeat China’s Din 6-5 in the first round of the Masters in January.
O’Sullivan dragged twice after losing the first and third frames on Tuesday, but then came out earlier.
At the 103 break, Din brought him within one frame of a 5-3 victory before Din counterattacked-and O’Sullivan threw the rest on the floor after missing a chance to win Match 6-4. I was frustrated.
However, after Din won the 10th frame to level the match, the final 95 breaks sealed the progress of O’Sullivan to the final eight.
“I was just frustrated,” O’Sullivan said. “I couldn’t understand my game. No matter how philosophical it is, it can be frustrating when you’re not hitting the ball the way you want.”
