Former Johannesburg Stock Exchange (JSE) employee Emilie Olifant suffered a spinal cord injury in a car accident in 2003.
According to the 2011 census data, there are 2.9 million people with disabilities in South Africa.
The data shows that about 2.5% of people with physical disabilities have mild difficulty walking, while 1% reported having serious difficulty walking a kilometer or climbing stairs.
