A Durban police officer appeared in court in connection with the murder of his girlfriend.
Sergeant Nhlakanipho Nkosinathi Mgwaba, 38, stationed at the Umlazi police station, appeared in the Magistrates’ Court on Monday on suspicion of murder.
He has been charged with stabbing and killing his girlfriend Zamandoshi Sele, 25.
Sele was reportedly last seen on Wednesday when he visited Muguwaba in the Ngonyameni region, said Grace Langa, a spokesman for the Independent Police Investigation Bureau (IPID).
According to Ranga:
They were reported to have had a fight, and the accused stabbed the deceased once in his neck and died on the scene.
“The incident happened around 20:00. The accused did not call the police all night, and the next day he left early in the morning and left the room locked,” Langa said.
He returned home around 17:00 on Thursday. When he went to the kitchen, his daughter asked for the key to his room, which he refused, Langa said.
“The daughter chased him as he went to the room, and when the accused opened the door, she saw someone lying dead on the floor. She informed her grandfather, who told the police in Bekitemba. I went and came back with them. They found the corpse. “
A murder case was registered at the Bhekithemba police station and Mgwaba was arrested.
He will continue to be detained until October 29, when he applies for bail.
