Ukraine’s human rights chief accused Russian troops of stealing agricultural equipment and attacking grain warehouses to cause famine in the eastern European country.

Lyudmyla Denisova, the country’s ombudsman for human rights, said in a Monday Facebook post that Russian forces destroyed a grain elevator – which is used to store the crop – in eastern Ukraine.

She accused Russian forces of steal agricultural equipment and said the first cases of theft were registered as early as mid-March.

Denisova also said a Russian attack hit a grain depot in Ukraine’s Dnipro region.

“Russian occupying forces are deliberately taking measures to cause famine in Ukraine,” Denisova said.

Ukraine’s Deputy Foreign Minister Emine Dzheppar posted a video of the alleged strike to Twitterand accuses Russia of “deliberately” attacking the warehouse.

Iuliia Mendel, a former spokeswoman for Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, also posted photos that appear to show damage from Russian attacks on Ukrainian agricultural equipment.

In a Sunday video address sent to Telegram, Zelenskyy said Russian forces beat one warehouse with grain and another with fertilizer.

“The targets they choose prove once again that the war against Ukraine is a war of extermination for the Russian army,” Zelenskyy said. “The Stocks of Targeted Farms.”

It has Ukrainian officials in the past accused Russia of stealing grain in areas now occupied by Russian President Vladimir Putin’s forces – a claim that the Kremlin rejects.

Attacks on grain storage and production also have consequences beyond the borders of Ukraine, which is a grain exporter.

That United Nations previously expressed concern that Russia’s ongoing war in Ukraine has created a spiraling humanitarian crisis and threatens global food security.
