CAPE TOWN — Deputy Minister for the Presidency Pinky Kekana said vaccine hesitancy is preventing the country from focusing on economic recovery.
She led a webinar on Thursday on government research on COVID-19 vaccine hesitancy.

She said: “Vaccine hesitancy across the world is neither new nor unique to COVID-19 vaccines and South Africa is no exception as this is a phenomenal development in the country. .”
Although hesitation is still a stumbling block, Kekana said South Africa is approaching halfway through adult vaccination.
“That’s a far cry from the 70% of our population fully vaccinated that we estimated we would be at this point. At 49.86%, the country is expected to reach 50% in the coming days.
