South Africa has recorded 1,558 new COVID-19 cases, bringing the total number of laboratory-confirmed infections to 3,702,042.
Due to the ongoing control exercise by the National Department of Health (NDoH), there may be a backlog of cases of COVID-19 deaths. Today, the NDoH reports 39 deaths and 6 of them have occurred in the past 24 – 48 hours. This brings the total death toll to 99,868.
According to the NICD, “The majority of new cases today are from Gauteng (36%), followed by Western Cape (28%). KwaZulu-Natal accounted for 18%; Free State and Mpumalanga each made 4% respectively; Eastern Cape and Northern West each good for 3% respectively; Limpopo good for 2%; and Northern Cape good for 1%.
