innocent_white_lamb writes: The Government of Saskatchewan will be implementing a new tax on electric passenger vehicles. The announcement was made on Tuesday. The new annual tax of $ 150 on electric vehicles (EVs) will come into effect on October 1, 2021. The government has said that the reason for the tax is that electric vehicles do not contribute to road maintenance through the provincial fuel tax. The new tax will be collected when the vehicle is registered. The province says it will continue to examine the future potential of extending the electric vehicle tax to commercial vehicles and intergovernmental trucking. The province will also consider options to apply a tax to electric vehicle charging stations.
