FIFA has released a list of 11 candidates for this year’s Puskás Awards. Among the candidates is Patrik Schick’s goal against Scotland at Euro 2020.
Czech forward sick was one of the most notable goals in the history of the European Championship, beating goalkeeper David Marshall. When his team beat Scotland 2-0, there was a spectacular 45-meter strike just inside the midline.
After that, Schick’s efforts were selected as the goal of the tournament.
Tottenham Hotspur forward Son Heung-min won the 2020 Premier League solo match against Burnley. He ran almost the length of the pitch and dribbled several Burnley defenders to score.
Manchester City’s Caroline Weir will be on the shortlist twice in a row in a FA Women’s Super League derby match against Manchester United, using clever chips from the edge of the box.
Premier League Erik Lamela and Riyad Mahrez are also on the list.
Lamella scored in Rabona against Arsenal in the North London Derby, and Mahrez was recognized for his sole efforts against Zimbabwe during his international mission with Algeria.
Winners will be selected by an international jury consisting of former soccer players and fans selected from around the world. The winner will be announced on January 17th.
