Minister of Communications and Digital Technology Khumbudzo Ntshavheni noted a new court application by Telcom to revoke the IMT Spectrum Application Invitation (ITA) issued by ICASA on December 10, 2021.
This development will take place without giving Minister Ntshavheni an opportunity to resolve any concerns Telcom may have regarding the current ITA. The minister concludes that the process of releasing the IMT spectrum by March 31, 2022 is a pandemic economic recovery after COVID-19, job creation, and the SA digital economy.
The Minister has received legal advice and will respond to requests from Telcom’s courts. Meanwhile, the Minister will involve Telcom and all relevant parties with the aim of reaching an out-of-court settlement and avoiding further delays in the release of the spectrum.
