Spider-Man Comics Page Sells For Record-Breaking $3.36 Million Auction

A single page of artwork from a 1984 Spider-Man comic book auctioned Thursday for a record $3.36 million. From a report: Mike Zeck’s illustration for page 25 of Marvel Comics’ “Secret Wars No. 8” brings the first appearance of Spidey’s black costume. The symbiote suit would ultimately lead to the emergence of the Venom character. The record auction, which started at $330,000 and topped $3 million, took place on the first day of Heritage Auctions’ four-day comedy event in Dallas. The previous record for an inside page of a US comic book was $657,250 for the art of a 1974 issue of “The Incredible Hulk” that featured a matchstick for Wolverine’s first appearance.
