The Secretary-General strongly condemns the attack carried out on the logistics convoy of the United Nations Multidimensional Integrated Stabilization Mission in Mali (MINUSMA), on June 1 in the vicinity of Kidal city. A peacekeeper from Jordan was killed and three others injured.
The Secretary-General extends his deep condolences to the families of the victims, as well as to the Kingdom and the people of Jordan. He wished a speedy recovery for the injured.
The Secretary-General warned that attacks targeting UN peacekeepers could constitute war crimes under international law. He called on the Malian authorities not to go to great lengths in identifying the perpetrators of this attack so that they can be brought to justice quickly.
The Secretary-General reaffirmed the determination of the United Nations to support the people of Mali in their pursuit of peace and security.
