A resurgence of the second half by the Stormers saw them crowned as the first winners of the United Rugby Championship (URC) on Saturday night in Cape Town. The Stormers came back from a 7-3 deficit in the first half, to grab the title with an 18-13 victory over the Bulls.
The visitors made a dominant performance in the first half, and came first on the scoreboard as early as the third minute through an attempt by center Harold Voster.
Stormers loose half Manie Libbok had a rocky start again by throwing the ball between the posts and in the first half only three points with a late penalty.
The wind changed in the second half when Evan Roos scored.
The visitors came back to 14 men, as Cornal Hendriks was sent to the penalty box for a dangerous tackle on Ruhan Nel. The Stormers took full advantage, going for the second time in the game over the whitewash, when Venter dived over the line from a rolling stroke, to take the lead for the first time in the game.
Smith kicked a penalty in the 64thth Minutes to reduce their deficit, but Libbok hit a clever drop goal with six minutes left, giving the home team an 18-13 lead, and they managed to keep the visitors out to grab the victory of the tournament.
