Stormers star Gelant flies to France to join Racing 92

Gelant has played some of the best domestic rugby games of his career this season and, as has been widely reported, the talented full-back has now made the decision to join Racing in France.

Corresponding rapportGelant took the opportunity this week to travel to Paris and finalize the deal that will see him join Bok’s teammate Trevor Nyakane at Racing.

Gelant has nine caps for the Boks

It is believed that Gelant was offered a whopping salary in the area €450,000 (R7.5 million) per season.

The 26-year-old is said to have been overlooked for the Boks’ two most recent lineups, with Willie le Roux, Aphelele Fassi, Frans Steyn, Damian Willemse and Kurt-Lee Arendse all offering 15 options.

It was also reported earlier this week that the Stormers have found a replacement for the exit succeeded in the form of Clayton Blommetjies.

Blommetjies played for the Cheetahs in PRO14, represented the Bulls and also had stints with the Scarlets in Wales and the Leicester Tigers in England.

Meanwhile, the Stormers are also said to be enlisting the services of esteemed Springbok hooker Joseph Dweba from a French club.

Over a year ago, the Stormers already began preparations to expand and improve their hooker depth after Bongi Mbonambi decided to join the Sharks.

There was serious discussion about luring either Japan-based Malcolm Marx or Bordeaux-based Joseph Dweba to Cape Town.

It was just an exploratory move at first, as Marx earns a sizeable salary from his Japanese club, while Dweba was just beginning his club career in France.

However, acc network24Reliable sources have reportedly confirmed that negotiations with Dweba are now at an advanced stage and he is expected to move to the Cape after July.

With Scarra Ntubeni out with a long-term injury, it will be a major commitment for the Stormers to secure the services of Dweba, who played his first bok game last year and has plenty of explosive power.
