Taliban schools U-turn ‘a devastating day’ for Afghan girls – Malala Yousafzai

Nobel Peace Prize laureate Malala Yousafzai has told the BBC that the Taliban will continue to make excuses to prevent girls from learning beyond primary school.

Since the Taliban took power in August 2021, only girls ‘schools – along with all boys’ schools – have remained open in most of Afghanistan.

The junior high schools for girls were to open on Wednesday, however The Taliban has reversed its decision says that decisions still need to be made about the uniforms that girls should wear.

In a speech to BBC World News’ Yalda Hakim, Mrs Yousafzai said that the Taliban imagine an Afghanistan where we do not have educated women.
