Rustenburg – Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) leader Julius Malema will launch the manifesto for the party’s 2021 local elections in Johannesburg on Sunday.
The manifesto was drawn up following extensive consultation with citizens and branches of the EFF, the party said.
In the municipal election manifesto of August 2016, the EFF pledged to build people-centered, corruption-free and accessible municipalities and councilors.
The party did not win any municipality but was a kingmaker in suspended municipalities. The EFF had played a role where the DA sought voices to lead the city of Johannesburg and in Tshwane.
Although none of its members held leadership positions in the coalition government, the party was able to influence the internalization of security guards and cleaners in the city of Johannesburg.
The party was committed to contracting out all workers who performed the work and function of the municipality, such as security guards, cleaners, garbage removal workers, drivers and general employees. .
The EFF had promised in its manifesto to create jobs through the provision of direct services to the population by the gradual elimination of tenders. The party said that instead of tenders, it promised to directly employ people and pay living wages.
The party also pledged to abolish all informal settlements and provide adequate human settlements for all. EFF is committed to building quality spacious homes with divided rooms and at least two bedrooms.
Apartheid-era hostels would be turned into family units while housing stalls would be provided free of charge to people who had to build houses themselves.
The EFF further promised to make electricity accessible to all and waived all electricity debts of beneficiaries of social subsidies and the unemployed.
Every house would have water, the poor and social grant recipients would have free water, the EFF said in its 2016 municipal election pledge.
