The president mourns the deaths of Eastern Cape teenagers

President Cyril Ramaphosa expressed condolences and concern over the deaths of 22 teenagers at a pub in Scenery Park, East London, at dawn on Sunday.

While the president is waiting for more information on the case, his thoughts are waiting for families who have lost a child, as well as for families who are waiting for confirmation of how their children have been affected, the presidency said in a statement.

The presidency said the president was concerned about the conditions under which such young people gathered in a venue that was apparently forbidden to those under 18 years of age.

The president expects the law to move forward after the tragedy is investigated.

“This tragedy is exacerbated by the fact that it took place in Youth Month – a period when we are celebrating young people and supporting and helping to improve the socio-economic conditions for the youth of our nation,” President Ramaphosa said. –SAnews.gov.za
