President Cyril Ramaphosa will tonight, Monday, April 18, 2022, address the nation on the government’s response to the catastrophic floods that have devastated parts of KwaZulu-Natal and the Eastern Cape.

The speech followed yesterday’s special Cabinet meeting where the government assessed the social and economic impact of the floods in the two provinces and the ongoing work to provide relief and rebuilding.

President Ramaphosa visited the Metropolitan City of eThekwini on Wednesday, April 13, where he received an update incorporating the responses of local, provincial and national authorities to the provincial disaster.

Since the beginning of the emergency, the President has held consultations with the National Disaster Management Center and the Inter-Ministerial Committee for Disaster Management.

The President has postponed a Working Visit to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to address the impact of a severe weather event that is also affecting the Eastern Cape.
