The solution to the e-toll will be announced in October: Mbalula – SABC News

The Minister of Transport, Fikile Mbalula, said that the e-toll will be announced in October, this time of course.

Mbalula has been promising announcements for emails since he took office in May 2019, and several seasons have come and gone.

Speaking at a press conference in Pretoria on Thursday morning, he said the decision would be made by a mid-term budget statement in October.

The Minister of Tourism says the matter will also come before government offices soon.

Mbalula said the legislature had made a decision in the past that would affect the fuel tax.

Among the suggestions listed to pay for e-tolls in the past, is an increase in fuel taxes in Gauteng.

However, he says this is no longer the direction they are considering.

The government introduced an e-toll in 2013 to pay for an 187km road upgrade in Gauteng.

This system uses electronic numbers to register vehicle numbers and send drivers a charge for long journeys on the upgraded roads.

However, this work has been encountered everywhere criticism and acceptance.

The video below talks about the new e-toll tariff and rewards:
