There may be an urgent need to increase power outages, Eskom warns – SABC News

Eskom says that there is a possibility of a rolling eclipse may need to be expanded at short noticedepending on the condition of the factory and the supply of labor.

The power outage moved from level 2 to level 4 on Friday and this is expected to continue until Wednesday.

Eskom blames unprotected industrial operations at its various power plants for switching to a 4-phase power outage, as this has affected the planned maintenance and repairs.

Eskom spokesman Sikhonathi Mantshatsha claims that not all of the station’s employees have volunteered.

“Therefore, unforeseen production losses have not been reduced as planned, which has forced Eskom to continue to take precautionary measures to preserve production capacity and protect the plant from damage. There is a possibility that there will be a change in the level of power outage at short notice, depending on the condition of the factory and the supply of labor. “

On Friday, Eskom was banned from striking by its employees, who are considered essential service workers. The workers are demanding a 12% wage increase, but Eskom says it can only afford a 4.7% increase.
