The three beaches in Durban along the Golden Mile have been reopened after improved water quality. These are Ushaka Beach, Addington Beach and South Beach.
All beaches along the Golden Mile were closed at the end of last week due to sewage spills after the pumping station was destroyed.
Msawakhe Mayisela, spokesperson for eThekwini Municipality, said the team is working hard to resolve the issue.
“Yes, we can see that the levels of E. coli on the beaches of Addington, South and Ushaka have increased significantly. As a result, these beaches are now safe for bathing and all other sporting activities. North, Bay of The beaches of Plenty, the Blue Lagoon remain closed, but our team is working hard to ensure that they are reopened soon, “says Mysera.
