Toyota plant in Prospecton to reopen after flooding in April – SABC News

Toyota’s Prospecton plant in southern Durban has resumed operation and will increase production in stages.

Work was halted when large areas of the South Durban Basin were submerged after flooding in mid-April.

Toyota spokesman Mzo Witbooi said the catalytic converter export facility had already resumed operation from May 9th. The Hino plant resumed production at the end of May and the Hilux and Fortuner lines resumed production at the end of July.

Production of one of the sedan vehicle lines, the Corolla Cross, began last week.

Shortly after the flood, Toyota said that when the water subsides, it goes through the arduous process of cleaning and repairing equipment.

In April, the company said 500 vehicles had passed inspections and would be sold after flood damage has been assessed.

It didn’t show how many vehicles were damaged.
