The FBI has arrested two men in an alarming conspiracy to bribe and gain access to members of federal law enforcement – including a person in Jill Biden’s secret service.

Four members of the Secret Service have been put on leave as a result of the investigation, officials said without releasing their names.

A Secret Service agent in First Lady’s details was offered a $ 2,000 assault rifle by one of the arrested men, officials said. It is not clear if that agent is among those on leave.

According to an FBI statement filed Wednesday night in the U.S. District Court in DC, Arian Taherzadeh, 40, and Haider Ali, 36, began the plot by pretending to be employees of the Department of Homeland Security.

The two were given handguns, rifles and other material as part of their disguise.

Since then, over the past two years, they have reportedly enjoyed themselves with unnamed members of the federal law enforcement and defense community. One was a Secret Service agent tasked with protecting First Lady, the statement said.

Taherzadeh treated members of the Secret Service and an actual DHS employee with a bag of valuable gifts, including free apartments and electronics and access to government vehicles, U.S. authorities charge.

According to the statement, the gifts included “rent-free apartments (with a total annual rent of over $ 40,000 per apartment), iPhones, surveillance systems, a drone, a flat-screen TV, a combat rifle case, a generator, and law enforcement equipment.”

Taherzadeh allegedly offered to buy a $ 2,000 storm rifle to a Secret Service agent in Biden’s details. Other federal employees, also unnamed, were offered what Taherzadeh described as government vehicles.

Both men are in custody and are due to appear in court on Thursday.
