Two people have been arrested in connection with a cryptocurrency investment fraud that claimed to have cost more than 30 million rupees.

Zain Muhammed Valle, 57, and Michelle Bianca Bezuidenhout, 25, appeared before the Lenasia Regional Court in Johannesburg on Tuesday. On the dock, they joined Bezuidenhout’s husband and accused partner, 32-year-old Jarrod de Lange. Lenasia police arrested De Lange in 2020.

Valle and Bezuidenhout are charged with fraud and money laundering after the Hawks arrested them at their residences in Lenasia and Alberton.

“Their arrest was caused by an alleged cryptocurrency fraud in which the complainant was tempted in February 2020 to invest in Siyakhula Logistics Pty (Ltd.) with a potentially lucrative dividend,” said Hawks spokesman Captain Ndivhuwo Mulamu.

Mulamu added:

The complainant allegedly transferred approximately RUB 34 million to the facility and to Bezuidenhout’s bank accounts in various transactions.

Valle allegedly introduced the complainant to De Lange as a business acquaintance. The complainant agreed to enter into a partnership in the cryptocurrency business, “but the money was used for the benefit of the Liverage Trading Company without the complainant’s consent,” Mulamu said.

Valle and Bezuidenhout received bail of 10,000 rupees each. But Lange was released on bail of 20,000 rupees.

The case was postponed to July 19 due to legal representations.
