The United Arab Emirates has announced a “stronger United” commitment for its term at the United Nations Security Council from 2022 to 2023. Commitments, including ensuring peace, promoting inclusion, building resilience, and promoting innovation, have been made by the UAE Security Council and UN member states throughout their term.

As an elected member of the Security Council, the UAE is committed to identifying areas of convergence among its members in order to better carry out its Security Council mission. The United Arab Emirates also serves as the voice of the Arabs on the Board of Directors, as well as for the wider member states of the United Nations. Efforts include strengthening cooperation with regional organizations such as the Arab League and the African Union.

The United Arab Emirates has also pledged to defend the cross-cutting issues of the Security Council, including women, peace and security. Climate change; the use of technology to promote peace. The United Arab Emirates will also address a variety of other issues related to the Board, such as counterterrorism and COVID-19 response and recovery.

During his two-year term, the UAE will chair the Security Council twice, March 2022 and June 2023. The Security Council chair, which changes every month, sets the Security Council agenda and chairs the Security Council Standing Council.
