Le Castellet-Mercedes driver Valtteri Bottas set the best time for the first free practice session of the French Grand Prix at Le Castellet’s Circuit Paul Ricard on Friday.
Finn was 0.335 seconds ahead of his teammate Lewis Hamilton, and Red Bull’s Max Verstappen was another 0.007 seconds behind.
The Dutch are four points ahead of Hamilton in the championship after six races.
Another Red Bull Sergio Perez was fourth fastest with Esteban Ocon, who had just extended his contract with Alpine until 2024.
Sebastian Vettel crashed Aston Martin, but was able to return to the pits, and Bottas and Mick Schumacher (Haas) also damaged the car off-track.
