Water infrastructure in four OR Tambo districts damaged by floods – SABC News

According to Minister of Water and Public Health Senzo Mchunu, water infrastructure in four municipalities in the OR Tambo district has been cut off. damaged by the recent floods that devastated the Eastern Cape.

Mchunu attended an inter-ministerial visit to the flood-affected areas alongside Mmamakolo Kubayi, Minister of Local Government, and Stella Ndabeni-Abrahams, Minister of Small Business Development.

Nyandeni, King Sabatha Dalindyebo, Port St Johns and Mhlontlo are the affected local authorities, leaving thousands of residents without water.

According to Mchunu, water tankers were sent to all affected areas.

He says, “Where there is no water, such as in Nyandeni, there are already three tankers installed; Mhlontlo has two tankers, PSJ has three tankers and KSD has three tankers. I have to emphasize that we are working with the OR district on these issues. ”

According to Ndabeni-Abrahams, RUB 100 million has been set aside to support underinsured and uninsured small businesses in KwaZulu-Natal and the Eastern Cape.

He says, “We are aware of the conditions that our people go through or are underinsured, if at all, because in most cases they are not insured at all. That is why, as a class, we have said that we need a special relief to help those who are uninsured and underinsured. Minister Patel also intervened through IDC, as we will receive RUB 50 million, they will also use RUB 50 million, which will cover both provinces. ”
